Max J. Olivas, 66, of Cortez, Colo. passed away on Friday, May 25, 2018 from an automobile accident in Aneth, Utah. Max, son of Oralia Lala and Antonio Olivas, was born April 19, 1952 in Parkview, N.M. He is survived by his wife, Carmen of 46 years; and by his three children, Rachel Olivas, Carlos Olivas and Cristy Gomez. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren, Haley, Ruben, Cody, Nicholas, Ralph, Junior, Sofia, and Carlitos; and by his siblings, Rosemary Mecure (Placido), Stella Archuleta, Juan Olivas (Pam), Agapito Pito Olivas, and Manuel Olivas (Diane). Max was preceded in death by his parents, Lala and Antonio Olivas; his brother, Ricardo Chepa Olivas; and by his sisters, Rachel Martinez and Kathy Olivas. Max worked in the oil and gas industry for the better part of his life and was well-liked and respected by his colleagues and employees. Max loved motorcycle riding, fishing, music, reading, spending time with his family telling stories of the past and spoiling his grandchildren as he was the BEST grandpa ever! Max was a universal handyman and could fix or build anything. Max will be remembered for his love, kindness and sense of humor. He touched so many lives as he was willing to help anyone he could. A man of humble beginnings that ended with a rich life filled with love and hard work. A Rosary will be held on Friday, June 1, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2018 at the church. Interment will follow at Cortez Cemetery and a celebration of life will follow at the St. Margaret Mary Parish Hall.
