August 5, 1931 — September 20, 2015

MAUDIE "JEAN" STOLZ Memorial services for Maudie "Jean" Stolz a resident of Dolores will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 23 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Dolores. Father Pat Valdez will officiate. An inurnment will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 5 at the Chapel Hills Memorial Gardens in Kansas City, Kansas. Jean was born August 5, 1931 in Kansas City, Kans. to Eldon Roy and Avis (Freeman) Roy. She passed away at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Durango on Sunday, September 20, 2015. Jean was 84 years old. Jean married twice, first to James Marion Bandy and later to Magnus Arthur "Skip" Stolz. In 1976 she legally adopted Skip's daughter, Olivia, whom she loved as her own. On October 7, 1961 Jean was baptized at the St. Pius X Catholic Church in Mission, Kans. and has remained a devout worshipper for the remainder of her years. Jean was a true "character." Loving, kind, generous, with a contagious laugh. She filled the hearts of all who knew her. Her hobbies included visiting with friends, reading, story-telling, family history and antique shopping. Late in life, Jean joined the Sleeping Ute Mountain Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a source of tremendous pride for her. Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her half-brothers Linn "Jimmy" Graves, Henry Graves and Harold Graves. She is survived by her daughter, Olivia; her sisters-in-law, Virginia Gibson and Miyoko Graves; nieces, Marilyn Brady and Jane Ellen Graves; and nephew Harold Graves as well as numerous great nieces and nephews and devoted friends in Dolores and Cortez. The family wish to thank all of her dear friends, neighbors and caregivers who have been an extended family to Jean since her move to the area in 2002. We are comforted to know that she is in Peace and that we'll be seeing her again one day. In lieu of flowers, Jean requested that a love offering be made to For Pets Sake.
