MATTIE LAURA COOK Funeral services for lifelong Mancos resident, Mattie Laura Cook will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 10 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Pastor Lyman Black will officiate. Visitation has been set for family and friends at the Ertel Chapel on Tuesday afternoon beginning at 4 p.m. Laura was born the daughter of Joel T. and Mary Eliza (Martin) Gilliland on July 25, 1916 at Yellow Jacket, Colo. She passed away at her home in Mancos on Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004 at the age of 88. On Oct. 3, 1933, Laura married Jim Barton Cook in Dolores, Colo. Together they shared 46 years of marriage until Jim’s death in 1979. Laura was a member of Order of Easter Star, she loved to garden, bake and sew. Taking care of her family was especially dear to Laura. Surviving Laura are her son, Jimmy D. Cook and wife, Esther of Mancos; two grandchildren, Duane Cook and wife, Snezhina and Cristal Cook all of Mancos; and her special friend, Masayo Weaver also of Mancos. Her husband, Jim; brothers, Tom, Bill Edgar, Ed, Charley and Jeff Gilliland; and sisters, Beatrice Lance, Emma Ewing, Bonnie Koehler, Florence Littrell, and three infant sisters precede Laura in death.
