MATTIE BELL ROWLETT BAILEY Services for Mattie Bell Bailey, 78, of Lubbock, Tex. will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 23, 2005 at the Cortez Cemetery. Mrs. Bailey died Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at her residence. Bell was born February 20, 1927 in Alvord, Texas to the late William and Fannie Prescott Rowlett. She graduated from Alvord High School. Bell married Max Bailey on January 29, 1945 in Waurika, Oklahoma. Max died Oct. 30, 2003. During Max’s career in the oil fields they lived in Texas, Colorado, Utah and New Mexico. They moved to Phoenix, Arizona after Max’s retirement and to then to Lubbock in 1979. She was a member of South Park Baptist Church. Bell made all of her family and friends feel loved and special. Everyone always wanted to go to the Bailey’s and play dominos or bridge and enjoy her cooking and hospitality. Her coffee pot was always on. Survivors include a daughter Rex Brown and husband Gene of Gillette, Wyoming; grandson Travis Brown and wife Cindy of Alva, Oklahoma, 2 great granddaughters Bailey and Kenedy Brown; sister Ethel Averitt and husband Ted of Lubbock, sister in law June Robinson and husband Jim of Lubbock. Preceding her in death was a daughter Mickey Lynn in 1963; 3 brothers Billy Lee, Jim and George, and 2 sisters Maggie Jo Steen and Lynn Nell Bernhardt. In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations to South Park Baptist Church, 2201-82nd Street, Lubbock, Texas 79423 or Hospice of Lubbock, P.O. Box 16800, Lubbock, Texas 79490-6800.
