MARY ELLEN McCAULEY

 Mary Ellen McCauley was born to John Hinton and Ellen (Olsen) Hinton on June 14, 1940. She passed away on January 24, 2024.

She was a lifelong resident of Cortez and spent her early childhood running and playing outdoors in Rico and in Cortez. She graduated from Montezuma Cortez High School in 1958.

She worked for many years preparing meals for the kids at Lakeview Elementary School. In later years she would oversee the meal program at Butler Child Development Center in Cortez.

In 1981 she met her true love; Jim McCauley and they were soon married. Together they partnered up to buy and operate a tool rental company in Cortez.

Mary spent her days enjoying a simpler life, living in the apple orchard that she loved. She looked forward to watching the deer play and the Canadian geese return to her pond in the backyard every year to raise their hatchlings.

Surviving Mary are her Children, Clint (Terri) Fletcher of Montrose and Renee’ (Mark) Dolan of Cortez; six grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Jim McCauley; her parents, John and Ellen Hinton; and her son, Billy Fletcher.

Graveside Services will be at the Cortez Cemetery on February 16, 2024 at 2:00pm.
