Mary Handy Lansing Begay

Graveside services for lifelong Aneth, Utah resident Mary Handy Lansing Begay, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at Prairie Dog Hill Family Cemetery, Aneth, Utah. Wesley Jones will conduct services. Mary was born on November 25, 1935 in Aneth, Utah, the daughter of Elizabeth Anderson and Handy Hosteen Nez Lansing. She passed away Saturday, February 27, 2016 at the age of 80. Mary had been married to Leonard Begay, Sr. for 49 years when he passed away in 2003. She was a member of the Native American Church. Mary enjoyed going to the casino, weaving, sewing, beading and cooking. She was a farmer and a sheep herder with her grandchildren. Mary was a very generous lady with many friends and she loved everyone. Mary is survived by her children, Delbert Begay (Marie) of Ismay, Colo., Leo Begay of Aneth, Utah, Angela Begay of Salt Lake City, Utah, Leanna Begay of Salt Lake City, Utah, Elizabeth of Lockesburg, Ark., Leona Benally of Salt Lake City, Utah, Mary Rose Begay of Cortez, Colo., Gerald G. Begay of Cortez, Colo., Laverne Begay of Grand Junction, Colo. and Leonard Begay, Jr. (Georgiana) of Cortez, Colo.; her 25 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren; and her numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her three bothers and her three sisters.
