MARY ESTHER TOMPKINS WILSON Funeral services for Mary Esther Tompkins Wilson, a longtime resident of Cortez will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 3 at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. Officiating will be Reverend Erika Meyer. Interment will follow at Cortez Cemetery. Visitation has been set for Thursday morning from 8 a.m. to noon at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Mary was born August 11, 1917 in Brawley, Calif., the daughter of Samuel Coles and Sarah Irene (Booth) Tompkins. She passed away at Southwest Memorial Hospital on Thursday, October 27, 2005 at the age of 88. The wife of Glenn Edwin Wilson, Mary was the mother to four children, Glenn “Kelly”, Ann, Sue and John. She was devoted to her home and community and was awarded with the distinction of State Homemaker of The Year in 1983. She was a 40-year member of the Lake Vista Grange, a member of Montezuma County Fair Board and Home Demonstration Club. Mary gave her time as a leader for Lakeview 4-H for 25 years and was active in the Montezuma County Democratic Party. Surviving Mary are her children, Glenn “Kelly” Wilson and wife, Diane of Cortez, Ann Brown and husband, Don of Cortez, and Sue Hassell and husband, Wendell of Arvada, Colo.; 18 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren; and three sisters-in-law, Betty Tompkins and Stella West both of Cortez and Annie Rowe of Riverside, Calif. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn; a son, John Allen Wilson; and two sisters and four brothers. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Mary Wilson with the Good Samaritan Center.
