Mary Ellen Hindmarsh

December 19, 1924 — February 3, 2011

MARY ELLEN HINDMARSH Funeral services for Mary Ellen (Spears) Hindmarsh, a longtime Dolores resident, will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 11 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Summit Ridge Cemetery. Mary was born December 19, 1924 in Sasakwa, Oklahoma to Maude and O.J. Spears. She passed away at her residence on Thursday, February 3 at the age of 86. At age 20 she moved to Covina, Calif. to work at Douglas Aircraft to help with the war effort. She was a riveter on the planes used in the war. When her fianc returned from the war she married him and joined him in his many travels looking for work. This took them to Anchorage, Alaska in 1951. After his death in 1959, Mary moved to Dolores, Colo. where her sister resided. Mary went to work for Dr. Merritt and Dolores Medical. In 1966 she married Stanley Hindmarsh. She continued to work at Dolores Medical until 1972, where she quit in order to help with her grandchildren and the ranch. Her grandchildren were always her focus and priority in her life. They always came first and she never missed any event in their life: 4-H, motocross, rodeo, dance recitals, horse shows or school programs. In her later days she loved to sit for hours doing crossword puzzles and reading gossip magazines when she wasn't chasing her dog, Moto, around. Mary will be greatly missed and has left a legacy of love through all of her grandchildren. They are Little Bobby Shackelford of Oklahoma, Kim and David Russell, Lonnie and Karen Hensley all of Dolores, Terri Conn of Centre, Ala., Michael Honeycott and Scott Honeycott both of Kingston, Tenn., and Kay Liest, Carol Oster and Michael Shackelford all of Rochester, N.Y.; fourteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Also surviving Mary are her husband, Stanley Hindmarsh of Dolores; children, Carol Harmon and husband, Jerry of Cortez, Jo Shackelford of Kingston, Tenn., Bobby Shackelford and wife, Barbara of Duncan, Okla., and Jimmie Shackelford and wife, Elaine, of Casa Grande, Ariz.; and by one sister, Billy Yancy of Denver, Colo. Those preceding Mary in death were her mother and father; her first husband; a grandson, Stanley Honeycott; and her sisters, Altha Beckham and Juanita Faye Nuckolls.
