MARY ELIZABETH JACOBS ROURK Memorial services for Cortez resident Mary Elizabeth Jacobs Rourk will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 23 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Mary was born on December 21, 1922 in Weir, Kan., the daughter of John Bernhard and Julia (Angleton) Jacobs. She passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at the Vista Grand Inn at the age of 84. During WWII, Mary went to work as an airplane mechanic. On May 21, 1946, she wed Russel Rourk. Mary graduated as a Dietician from Orange Coast College in 1973. She opened up her home and was hostess for the weekly gathering of the “Memory Makers.” In her free time, Mary enjoyed cooking, crocheting, reading and gardening. Surviving Mary are her children, Julius Rourk of Paris, Calif., Gordon Rourk and wife, Gini of Aurora, Colo., Keith Rourk of Cortez, and Kay Garlinghouse and husband, Jim of Lewis; her sisters, Kathy Baker of Upland, Calif., and Adeline Williams of Wisconsin; her seven grandchildren, Fred and Lisa Rourk, Patty Spiegle, Brian Rourk, Kathy Hargrove, Marc Garlinghouse, and Monica Haptonstall; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Russel Rourk; her siblings, Ann Murphy, Louis Jacobs, Martha Burns, and John Jacobs; and her daughter-in-law, Sonja Rourk. Memorial contributions may be made in Mary’s name to the First National Bank.
