Mary Alice (Robinson) Lewis was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado on May 28, 1953 to Ray Edward Robinson and Clara Mae (Kennett) Robinson. She passed into Eternal Life on February 8, 2020. She is survived by her husband of 44 years Gary D Lewis, her brother Daniel C Robinson and his wife Alice. She is also survived by her sister in-law Jeanine Trone, her brothers in-law Bernie Lewis and Neely Lewis (Krista), her Nieces and Nephews whom she considered her children, Gary Stephenson, Debra (Stephenson) Way, April (Neely) Patterson, Aaron Neely, Amber (Neely) Butt, Andrew Lewis, Jennifer (Lewis) Wolf, Stephanie (Lewis) Dorsey and Joseph Lewis. She also has many Grand Nieces and Nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her father, mother and beloved Grand Parents Dan (Grandpopper) and Nellie (Nana) Kennett, Ed (Pa) and Mary (Da) Robinson, Clem Lewis her father in-law, Berniece Lewis her mother in-law and sister in-law Joetta Lewis.
Mary had a calling to become a teacher. She especially found it rewarding to teach children to read. She would always relate to Gary the many, many times when she was able to hear from her students the words “I am a reader.” She loved equally as well to be able to say “You are a reader.” She began her teaching career in Nucla, Colorado and then taught at the Dolores Elementary School for another 25 years before she retired in 2004
She rejoiced in the time she spent with family, friends and colleagues. Mary delighted in everything from mowing her lawn and tending her vegetable garden to attending the Santa Fe Opera. She remained joyful and found pleasure even during her struggle with illness. Special times for Mary were her early morning walks, her hikes in the desert and beloved mountains. She treasured her quiet times with Gary.
She will be greatly missed by her husband and friend Gary, as well as everyone who was ever touched by our Dear Sweet Mary.
