Mary Aletha Fisher

Mary Aletha Fisher was born November 18, 1947 in Lubbock, Texas, the daughter of Fred Warren and Mayme Laverne (Nelms) McCorkle. She passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at the age of 71.
Surviving Mary are two sisters, Gail Roberts of Bloomfield NM, Betty Glover of Farmington NM, her four children, Robin Allmon, Jamie Ritthaler (Rodney), Todd Allmon (Rhonda) and Glen Fisher (Melissa Pope), all of Cortez, CO. Her six grandchildren, Cody Allmon (great granddaughter Jaylynn Allmon), Kyle Allmon and Casen Allmon of Cortez, Patrick Allmon of Fort Collins CO, Naomi Martin (Ryan) of Grand Junction, CO, and Jake Ritthaler of Fort Collins CO, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Adrian Glen Fisher, her granddaughter Elizabeth Allmon, and her siblings Truitt McCorkle and Millie McCorkle.
When she was a young girl, Mary moved with her family from Lubbock Texas to the Aztec, NM area. She attended Aztec high school until she married and started a family with James Shelby Allmon, Jr. Years later she moved to the Cortez area, and after the resolution of her marriage to James, she later met and then married Adrian G. Fisher in 1971. Mary dedicated those early years to her family and working as a bookkeeper. As her children were growing up and leaving home, Mary decided it was time to pursue a dream of going back to school and getting a college education. In 1992, (yes at the age of 45, go Mary!) she completed her undergraduate degree from Fort Lewis College majoring in geology with a teacher licensure. Her dream was to become a secondary school teacher. But unfortunately just as she was starting, Mary’s health kept her from pursuing her career. But this did not stop her from thriving in her own way, never feeling sorry for herself and maintaining a zest for life. Instead Mary kept herself busy with her family, traveling when she could, she had passion for reading, crossword puzzles, her favorite TV programs and loved a good game of Cribbage! In her final years, with grace and determination keeping her going, she never lost her sense of humor, enjoying a good laugh and story with family and friends. Mary was a kindhearted woman, caring deeply for her family and friends. It was so important to her that everyone around her was happy and loved. She will be fondly remembered, deeply missed and forever in our hearts. There will be a celebration of Mary’s life held in the spring/summer of 2019, date to be determined.
The family of Mary would like to sincerely thank Sandy McGuire, FNP and the staff from Silver Linings, the compassionate and caring staff at Southwest Memorial Hospital and Hospice of Montezuma who took such wonderful care and gave her comfort in her last days.
