MARIETA MAY MILLIGAN Funeral services for lifelong Cortez resident, Marieta May Milligan will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 24 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Church, Empire Chapel. Interment will follow at the Cortez Cemetery. Bishop David Mortensen will officiate. A visitation has been scheduled for Friday morning from 9 a.m. to noon at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. The daughter of Hubert William and Jennie Elizabeth (Highland) Samson, Marieta was born on April 24, 1929 in Cortez. She passed away at her home on Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at the age of 76, In the Spring of 1947, Marieta graduated from Cortez High School. On June 7 of that same year she married Frank Milford Milligan. Marieta was a hardworking and dedicated employee of Cortez Laundry and Cleaners for 27 years before retiring in 1992. She was also a member of the 40’s Bunch and was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Church. Time not spent at work or attending church and social gatherings, Marieta enjoyed crocheting, bowling, listening to music, going for rides in the mountains, playing cards, and especially, time spent with her family. Surviving Marieta are her children, Mildred Dunlap and husband, Wes of Benson, Ariz., Marilyn Lee of Cortez, Marsha Buck and husband, Lee and Daniel Milligan and wife, Bobbi all of Bloomfield, N.M., Debbie Exon and husband, Henry of Amarillo, Tex., and Sandra LeBlanc and husband, Joe of Cortez; her siblings, Eurma Batchelor of Durango, Huberta Parsons and Verna Louderback both of Aztec, N.M., Laura McCall of Gallup, N.M., and Charles Samson. She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Preceding Marieta in death were her parents; her husband, Frank Milligan; and two infant sisters.
