Mariea Ann Rivera

Mariea Ann Rivera was born September 2nd 1962 to Achilles Eugene Root and Rose Marie Bancroft. The oldest of her siblings she spent the earliest years of her life with her biological parents before being adopted by Sophie Stevenson, the woman who she would call Mom for the rest of her life. She grew up in Mancos, Colorado, in a loving home attending school there and spent her youth helping her grandfather with his sheep in the summer and exploring the Mancos valley. She met and married Ronald Boughey and together they had two daughters, Holly and Courtney. They would later divorce and she would go on to meet Gene Lane who she spent many happy loving years with until his passing in July of 1996. Mariea made her home in Towaoc, Colorado but she was a free spirit and was forever traveling and together with her best friend Kai Valiente explored much of the western United States. They were inseparable even until her last day here on Earth. She loved to shop and could always be seen in something vibrant and eye catching from her animal prints to her sky high heels and big beautiful jewelry. She was so daring in her style from what she wore to her hair, unafraid to cut and color to suit her mood. When she walked in a room you noticed her and when she left you didnt forget her. Being outside always brought her great joy. She loved the mountains and the desert taking pictures everywhere she went so she could show you her adventures. Always impeccably dressed to a T she was just as happy and comfortable in some old blue jeans and a tee shirt riding thru the mountains bare feet hanging out the window. Her heart was so big and welcoming and she was always taking in strays, always rescuing an animal here or there, once she even brought an old goat home. She loved her dogs and cats but there was always a special place in her heart for her horses. Mariea deeply loved her family and friends and was never far from home for too long. She was an incredible mother to her daughters teaching them to be kind and strong and independent. She loved her grandchildren immensely and they always brought sunshine to her life. Many memories where made hiking and taking trips to explore the world. She was such an amazing woman and so many things to so many people. She was a rock to hold you still when the world was chaos around you and a confidant and shoulder to cry on when your heart was breaking. She will be missed beyond what any words can describe. Surviving Mariea are her two daughters Holly Boughey (Randon Sheley) of Cortez, CO; Courtney Johnson (Leon) of Cortez CO; three grandsons Mickey, Howie and Charles Lang; best friend Kai Valiente of Towaoc, CO; her mother Sophie Stevenson of Cortez, CO; her sisters Phillis Cordova of Colorado Springs, CO; Rebecca Price of Ignacio, CO; Cherylynn Houser of Cortez, CO; Sandra Valencia of Cortez, CO; her brother Theron Root of White Rocks, UT; and many family members, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Proceeding her in death are her parents Achilles Root and Rose Bancroft, her husband Eugene Lane, and her sisters Corrina Gurule and Flora Faye Root.
