MARIAN LOUISE SMITH TANNER Funeral services for longtime Cahone resident Marian Louise Smith Tanner will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Empire Street Chapel. Interment will follow at the Cahone Cemetery, where Marian will be laid to rest at the side of her husband, Harold Donald Tanner. A viewing is scheduled at Ertel Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2. Marian was born Sept. 23, 1916, the daughter of Merritt Major Smith and Mae Clare (Rice) Smith in Dalies, N.M. She married Harold Donald Tanner on April 23, 1937. Gram was called to be with her Lord on Jan. 28, 2006, while wintering in Mesa, Ariz., at the young age of 89. The Tanner family moved to Cortez in 1943 and to the community of Cahone in 1955, where Marian continued to live in the family home. She was an active member in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Surviving Marian are her daughter, Dlorah Jean Bracken, and husband, Byron; sons, Rodney Tanner, and wife, Joyce, Glenn Tanner, and wife Linda, Jack Tanner, and wife, Terry, and Terry Lee Tanner, and wife Becky, 23 grandchildren and 56 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husband, Harold Tanner, daughter, Marian Angela, and grandson, Josh Tanner. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Marian Tanner to the Harold D. Tanner Memorial Scholarship Fund, in care of Vectra Bank.
