MARGARET SUSAN COOPER JAILLITE Margaret Susan Cooper Jaillite, affectionately called "Deet", the mother of Susan Rose of Durango, Colorado, and Phillip Jaillite of Lawrence, Kansas died in Cortez, Colorado, on Tuesday, January 27, 2009. She was 91. Margaret was born to Mary Guyton Bradley and Willard Cooper in Columbus, Georgia on November 15, 1917. Margaret was the third of four children; one brother, Dan, and two sisters, Lenora and Mary. She described her family as very loving and nurturing. Margaret graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in dietetics. Shortly after graduating from college she moved to New York City to "enjoy the vibrant city life". In New York, Margaret worked as a dietician at Bellevue Hospital. She later met and married Embree Gibson Jaillite in 1940. Embree was the public relations director for the J.C.Penney Company. They had two children, Phillip Embree, who they nicknamed "Phip" and Susan Adriance, who they called "Susie". The family moved to Roslyn, Long Island, New York in 1948. Margaret was a full time homemaker who enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends with her rich and tasty Southern style cooking and soft sweet voice. Her specialties were pecan pie, pralines, cheese straws, and mincemeat pie. She also enjoyed gardening, playing bridge, knitting, and antiquing. After Embree's retirement from the J.C. Penney Company in 1970, the couple moved to Nassau Point at the tip of Long Island. They had a lovely home on the Sound bordering a bird sanctuary. In 1978, they moved to Manhattan, Kansas to be closer to their children and grandchildren. "Grandma" was a big part of their lives and delighted in "mothering" once again. In 1998, Margaret moved to Durango, Colorado after the death of Embree in 1991. She lived at Sunshine Gardens Assisted Living for several years until she moved to Vista Mesa Assisted Living in Cortez, Colorado. At Vista Mesa, "Miss Deet" was cared for with much love and tenderness. She was their little "Southern lady". Mrs. Margaret Jaillite is survived by her daughter, Susan Adriance Jaillite Rose of Durango, Colorado; son, Phillip Embree Jaillite of Lawrence, Kansas; granddaughters, Nicole Susan Rose and Nina Jeanne Rose of Seattle, Washington; and grandson, Christian York Jaillite of Tarrytown, New York; and three great grandchildren, Dominic James Root and Sophia Rose Root of Seattle, Washington; and James Christian Jaillite of Tarrytown, New York. A memorial service will be held in Colorado at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the State Botanical Garden of Georgia, the Elizabeth Bradley Turner Memorial Rose Garden, 2450 S. Milledge Avenue, Athens, Georgia 30605-1624.
