MARCHETA EVA NEWHOLM Marcheta Eva Newholm, longtime resident of Mancos, passed away at her home on Sunday, April 20, 2008 at the age of 73. She was born the daughter of Willis L. "Bill" and Glee Dora (Farni) Smith on August 8, 1934 in Leedy, Okla. Marcheta and her family came to Colorado when she was three. Marcheta worked in different capacities for the Mancos School District, as a waitress and bartender at the Silver Peaks, and as a clerk for Cooks Hardware. She gave much of her time as a loving caregiver for her children. Surviving Marcheta are her children, Scott Ellis Walton of Mancos and Camella Faye "Kim" Lipe of Dolores; by her grandchildren, Randy Halls, Aaron Halls, Dwight Halls, Jesse Walton, Tammi Walton, Mindy Impagliazzo, Amy Melvin, Heather Varney, Joshua Walton, Natasha Walton, Brandon Young and Tiffany Young; and by her great grandchildren, Magdelena Halls, Augustas Halls, Hailey Melvin, Logan Varney, Jake Walton and Shelby Walton. Preceding Marcheta in death are her children, Jesse Harley Walton, Eunice Margaret "Peggy" Halls, Joseph Glenn Walton, Mathew Todd Walton, Willis Lewton Walton; by her grandson, Jason Lee Halls; and by her siblings, Wilamae Fox and Leslie "Boots" Smith. In accordance with Marcheta's wishes, cremation has taken place and no services will be held.
