MABEL IRENE IMEL Graveside services for Mabel Irene Imel will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, September 14 at Lewis Cemetery. Mabel was born October 16, 1914 in Norton, Kansas the daughter of John Wesley and Mary Melcena (Hagen) Blackwell. She passed away at Vista Grande Inn on Friday, September 11, 2009 at the age of 94. On October 16, 1937 Mabel married Abraham Lincoln Imel in Delta, Colo. The couple shared 50 years of marriage before Abraham’s death in 1988. Mabel enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, gardening and rockhounding. Surviving Mabel are her son, Travis Imel and wife, Tracey of Mancos; four grandchildren, RayNell Paredes and husband, Ramon of Cortez, Buffy Brito and husband, Rogelio of Cortez, Rocky Fletcher and wife, Nancy of Maine and Shane Chaffin and wife, Elva of Cortez; by 19 great grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter. Mabel’s sister, Doris Rule of Kansas also survives her. Preceding Mabel in death are her parents; her husband, Abraham Imel; two daughters, Jackie McCabe and Anita Rose; and by five sisters and one brother.
