MABEL INEZ RICH Funeral services for Cortez resident Mabel Inez Rich will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 17 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at the Cortez Cemetery. Pastor Jack Miller, Mabel's grandson, will officiate. A visitation has been scheduled for Monday morning from 10 a.m. to noon at the Ertel Chapel. Mabel was born on January 23, 1910 in Durango, Colo. the daughter of Herbert Stewart and Mable Lauretta (Soper) Taylor. She passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2008 at Madison House at the age of 98. Surviving Mabel are her children, Alfred Rich of Mt. Shasta, Calif., Lucille Prine of San Diego, Calif., Christine Olive of San Diego, Calif., Clarence Rich of Dacono, Colo., Lorna Bates of Wasilla, Alaska, and Dorothy Starr of Wasilla, Alaska; 24 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren. Mable was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bird Sam Rich; her children, Vivian Pearson and Herbert Eugene "Gene" Rich; and her siblings, John Taylor, Floyd Taylor, Bill Taylor, Merle Taylor, Fern Dunham, and Betty Faye Klette.
