LYLA GERTRUDE CURTIS DOYAL Memorial services for Dove Creek resident, Lyla Gertrude Curtis Doyal will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 12 at the Troy Young VFW Post #5181 in Dove Creek. There will be an inurnment service held in Carbondale, Colo. in spring 2006. Lyla was born on April 6, 1928 in Cañon City, Colo. the daughter of Virgil Glen and Cora Elizabeth (Wilson) Curtis. She passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2005 at her home in Dove Creek at the age of 77. On December 24, 1946 in Aspen, Colo. Lyla married Emmett Melvin Doyal. She worked at Aspen’s famous Hotel Jerome as both a waitress and hostess. She later worked as an aid in the medical field. Upon her move to Dove Creek, Lyla became very active and supportive in the local community, also maintaining a membership with the VFW Auxiliary. She was known to have lots of friends within this area. Lyla was a devoted wife and homemaker who supported her husband and family in everything they did. She was very outdoors oriented, having a green thumb and loving nature, especially birds. Lyla was very crafty as well; crocheting was a love of hers. Surviving Lyla are her children, Elizabeth Klock, and Bennie Doyal and wife, Barbara all of Dove Creek. She leaves ten grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. Her siblings, Dorothy Zordel and husband, Bill of Cahone, Glen Curtis and wife, Alice of Delta, Colo., Bennie Eldon Curtis and wife, Judy of Montrose, Colo., Shirley Downing and husband, Eddie of Glenwood Springs, Colo., and JoAnn Deathrage and husband, Billy of La Junta, Colo. also survive Lyla. Preceding her in death were her parents; her beloved husband, Emmett Doyal; and her two sons, Melvin J. Doyal and David Alvin Doyal. Memorial contributions may be made in Lyla’s memory to Hospice of Montezuma.
