LUPITA SOPHIA SANDERS LUPITA SOPHIA SANDERS Memorial services for longtime Cortez resident, Lupita Sophia Sanders will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 13 at the Jehovah Witness Church. Lupita was born on March 25, 1920 in Breen, Colo., the daughter of Bidal and Lena May (Smith) Candelaria. She passed away on Monday, August 9, 2004 at her home in Cortez at the age of 84. Taking care of and loving her family was Lupita’s greatest devotion. She is survived by her two sons, Richard J. Sanders and wife, Ellen, and Timothy D. Sanders all of Cortez; her grandchildren, Deborah D. Hager and husband, Rodney, Rita Higgins and husband, Robert, and Gene Sanders all of Cortez; as well as nine other grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. Her sister and brother, Juanita Bettini of Buena Park, Calif., and Richard Candelaria of Kirtland, N.M. also survive Lupita. Preceding her in death were her parents; her beloved husband, Benjamin Franklin Sanders; and two sisters and nine brothers.
