Her aunt Alice Lancaster was a midwife during her birth, and also one of her teachers. She was the 11th of 12 children born to the Lancaster family. She went to grade school at Pleasant View Elementary through the 8th grade. One day during her elementary years, a lonely, saddened boy was going to run away from home and Louise convinced him to change his mind, which showed at a very young age just how loving and caring she was. She had very long, brunette hair when she was growing up, and when she cut it she donated it to Locks of Love. This again reminds us of her compassionate nature. Louise graduated from MCHS in 1959. After graduation, Louise went to college at Mesa, Grand Junction and because of struggling with math class, decided to switch her path and transfer to a cosmetology school to become a "beauty operator." She and her friend Doris Whitley, (who was later be a bridesmaid at Louise and Glen's wedding) both passed the state boards shortly thereafter, and were quickly employed in Alamosa, CO at the same beauty salon. She moved back to Grand Junction after two years, worked for one year there, and finally bought her dream car...a 1964 yellow GTO. In 1965, after moving home to Cortez, CO, Louise was employed at The Beauty Center. This is where Louise met Elaine, Glen's sister. Elaine told her that she needed to meet her single 28 year old brother, because they would be perfect for each other. Louise wondered if he was still single at 28, what was wrong with him? She agreed to the blind date, and while waiting for Glen to arrive to pick her up from the shop, the egg man (whom looked very scroungy) came in and Louise thought it was her date! After realizing that he was luckily not Glen, she was very relieved and went out on their first date. This was in November, and that next February 6, 1966 they were married in Cortez, at the First Baptist Church. They became devoted members of the Cortez Church of Christ shortly after their union. During their fellowship with the church, they visited the elderly, and had prepared meals for the sick and needy while she was able. Louise also was a member of the Ladies Bible School and was a cook for the Four Corners Encampment during summertime. Glen and Louise have just celebrated their Golden 50th anniversary. What a testament to both Glen and Louise on the sacred vows of to have and to hold, through sickness and health til death do us part. In 1968, they welcomed their first son Alfred Vonn Baer. In 1970, their second son Jeffrey Britt Baer came into this world and completed the Baer family. Louise was definitely a "momma bear" as she protected, cared for, and loved them more than life itself. When the boys get together, the stories go on and on about all of the wonderful memories they have as a family, centered around their Mother in particular. Louise was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease around 1990 and enjoyed the support group meetings, and showing her strength of battling through all of the trials and tribulations that come with this awful disease. Glen retired in 1998, to stay home and take care of Louise for the rest of her wonderful life. In 1998, and 2000 Louise was overcome with pride when her three grandson's were born. Coby, Jack and Cordell were the apples of her eye. Louise would brag to anyone that would listen about her successful sons and exceptional grandsons. She loved sending cards, making crafts, celebrating holidays, and especially enjoyed attending activities and supporting them in all of their accomplishments. Louise cherished her extended family, church family, neighbors, caregivers, doctors and everyone that offered a helping, caring hand to her in any way. She was surrounded with much love, and gave even more than imaginable. Louise Eva Baer was the "bestest" Wife/ Mom/ Lil Eller/ Mamas/ and Grandma Baer. Louise will always be remembered in our hearts forever.
