LOUISE EDWENA VALDEZ Funeral Mass for lifelong Cortez resident, Louise Edwena "Ojo" Valdez will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 15 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Cortez Cemetery. Reverend Pat Valdez, C.R. will be officiating. A Rosary will be held Thursday evening at 6 p.m. at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Louise was born October 23, 1942 in Cortez the daughter of Ubaldo and Siria (Montoya) Valdez. She passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2014 at her residence at the age of 71. Louise was a dedicated Catholic woman, belonging to Catholic Daughters. She worked at the City Market bakery as a young woman and went on to work in social services for the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe for many years. Louise had many interests in life. She enjoyed music, fishing, beading and crafting. Betty Boop and the Denver Broncos were also favorites of Louise's. Her dogs, Misty, Morgan and Molly held a special place in her heart. Surviving Louise are her sister, Cordy Rypma and husband, Jay of Farmington, N.M.; her nieces and nephews, Lanette Candelaria-Mitchell, Bonnie Candelaria, Jim Candelaria, Cathy Rypma-Dixon, Bob Candelaria, Duane Martinez, Stephanie Martinez, Jay Mike Rypma, Darren Lobato; and numerous great nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, Ubaldo and Siria (Montoya) Valdez; and five siblings. Memorial contributions can be made in Louise's memory to the Catholic Daughters at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church.
