LOUISE BILLIE Funeral services for Louise Billie, a resident of Cortez, will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 22 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at the Cortez Cemetery. Louise was born January 1, 1901 at Luepp, Ariz. She passed away at her home in Cortez on March 14, 2007 at the age of 106. Louise was an active woman who worked hard herding sheep and livestock. Farming was a way of life she knew well. Louise was also a gifted weaver. She helped many people during hard times and sickness as she was a Medicine Woman and a Midwife. She lived life to the fullest. Surviving Louise are her daughters, Leora Billings of Cortez, and Irene Kanuho of Seba Dalkai, Ariz.; and by her 18 grandchildren, Herbert Keams, Winona Begay, Marie Begay-Kanuho, Helen Begay, Loretta Begay, Nathaneal Begay, Micheal Begay, Lucille Begay, Earl Kaye, Katy Kaye, Marlene Cody, Christopher Kanuho, Anthony Billings, Darrell Billings, Corinna Martinez, Cheryle Billings, Jayme Billings and Lisa Billings; as well as by 36 great grandchildren and 24 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sam Billie; and her daughter, Mary Susie Wilson.
