LORENE MARY O’BRIEN Funeral services for lifelong Mancos resident Lorene Mary O’Brien will be held on Tuesday, January 8 at 2 p.m. at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Reverend Bud Rousset will officiate. A visitation has been scheduled for Monday afternoon from 4 to 6 p.m. at Ertel Chapel. Lorene was born on July 8, 1924 in Yellow Jacket the daughter of John Wesley and Emma Delila (Gilliland) Kennedy. She passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2008 at her residence at the age of 83. On June 27, 1946, Lorene married Richard Roy O’Brien in Aztec, N.M. She enjoyed time spent watching her grandchildren play sports and traveling. She loved making afghans for her family. Lorene liked to read and she was an avid traveler. Surviving Lorene are her children, Ray O’Brien and wife, Cathy of Darlington, Maryland, Janet Reider of Mancos, and Richard “Rick” O’Brien and wife, Brenda of Cortez; her grandchildren, Kay Visnaw and husband, Fred of Whiteford, Maryland, Richard O’Brien of Darlington, Maryland, Charissee Reider and Randee Reider both of Mancos, Rafe O’Brien and Aislynn O’Brien both of Cortez, Brenda Riley and husband, Royal of Mathis, Tex., and Rodney Reider and wife, Cheryl of Murray, Ky.; her great-grandchildren, Oshiona, Derrick, Alyssa, and Christian; her brothers, Loran Kennedy and wife, Lucille of Soda Springs, Idaho, and Edward Kennedy and wife, LaVerne of Mancos; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Lorene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard; and her siblings, Claude Kennedy, Edna Hansberry, and Henry Ewing. Memorial contributions may be made in Lorene’s name to the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.
