LOIS LUSK Memorial services for Cortez resident Lois Lusk will be held at 11 a.m. on her birthday, Thursday October 18, 2007 the Vista Mesa Assisted Living Residence in Cortez. Lois was born October 18, 1919 in Palisade, Neb. the daughter of Elmer and Bessie Henze. She passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at the Southwest Memorial Hospital at the age of 87. Lois grew up during The Great Depression with one brother and two sisters on a dry land farm outside of Palisade. Upon graduating from high school in 1936, Lois moved to Denver, Colo. to attend the Bonnie School of Beauty Culture which after completion she received her beautician’s license. Shortly thereafter she met and married Fred Lusk, her husband of 43 years. Fred began his career as a glassworker and ascended through the ranks of the building trades eventually to become a Federal Mediator responsible for settling numerous high profile labor strikes throughout Colorado. Lois was a homemaker for the Lusk family giving birth to one daughter, Carole. Except for short stays in California and Minnesota, she lived nearly her entire adult life in the Denver area. In 1961, Lois and Fred became two of the first residents to live in the new suburban community of Northglenn. In April 2005, after living in and caring for her same Northglenn home for 44 years, Lois moved to Cortez where she spent her remaining years happily at Vista Mesa Assisted Living Residence. Lois is remembered by many as an independent and outgoing person with a good sense of humor. She enjoyed her new community and did her best to get to know it whether by visiting the Ute Mountain Casino, going on color rides up the Dolores River Valley, seeing the new sunflower crops near Dove Creek, or touring Dan Belt’s salvage yard. Lois had many interests over her life including weight lifting, yoga, square dancing, Boy Scouts, bible studies, and playing the organ. She was a lifelong member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a founding member of the Northglenn Garden Club, and was affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Lois is survived by her daughter Carole Strange and her son-in-law Walter Strange who reside in Northglenn. She is also survived by her grandson John Norton and grand daughter-in-law Marsha Porter-Norton who live in Durango. Lois was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and all three siblings. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Memorial contributions can be made to Girls and Boys Town; P.O. Box 6000; Boys Town, NE 68010; 800-217-3700; an organization that was always dear to her heart.
