LEWIS E. 'LEW' PHILLIPS Memorial services for Dolores resident, Lewis E. 'Lew' Phillips, will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at the Mountain View Baptist Church. Pastor Roy Vinson will officiate. Lew was born on Sept. 6, 1919 in Burr Oak, Kans. to Grace Marguerite (Trigg) and Charles Clyde Phillips. He passed away at his residence on June 21, 2005 at the age of 85. Lew enlisted in the United States Navy in January of 1943 where he worked as a cobbler on the USS Amsterdam. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 11, 1945. He married Floy Morrison on October 29, 1988 in Dolores. Lew enjoyed hunting, fishing, and as a youngster, he trapped and sold furs. He was a plumber by trade and a member of the Local 412 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union in Albuquerque for 52 years. Lew is survived by his wife, Floy Phillips of Dolores; three children, Robert Phillips of Farmington, N.M., Sandra Buchanan of Albuquerque, N.M., Marsha Males of Loveland, Colo.; six grandchildren, Lacee, Shawn, DeWain, Robert, Rene, Le Roy; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Rosemary Phillips; two brothers, Ralph Eugene Phillips and Charles Laurence Phillips; and two sisters, Marguerite Williams, and June Rose Kornegay. Memorial contributions may be made in Lew's name to the Dolores State Bank.
