LESTER JAMES HANCOCK Funeral services for former Dove Creek resident Lester James Hancock will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 21 at the Dove Creek First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Dove Creek Cemetery. Visitation has been set for Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Lester was born August 23, 1933 in Walsh, Colo. the son of William Oscar and Mary Catherine (Ohnick) Hancock. He passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at Alfredo Gonzalez Texas State Veterans Home in McAllen, Texas at the age of 78. On September 23, 1953 Lester married Paula Louise Martin in Dove Creek. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. An active member of the Dove Creek community, Lester served on the Town Board and was a volunteer fireman for many years. He enjoyed fishing, square dancing, and all sports. Lester loved being a farmer and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Surviving Lester are his wife, Paula Hancock; his children, Leslie Bell of Steamboat Springs, Colo., Lynette Meyer and husband, Mike of Centennial, Colo., Linda Freihoefer and husband, Dave of Aurora, Colo.; his six grandchildren, Amber and Matthew Voiland, Mark Meyer, Derek, Allison, and Jared Freihoefer; his two great grandchildren, Madeline and Cayden; and his sisters, Dorothy Randolph and husband, Kenneth of Dove Creek, and Betty Jones of Bellingham, Wash. Lester was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Hancock; his brothers, Grover, Robert, Allen, Ivan and Wilbert Hancock; and two infant sisters. Memorial contributions may be to the Ambulance Fund in Dove Creek or the Dove Creek Volunteer Fire Department.
