LEOTA PEARL BARKER BROWN Visitation for longtime Dove Creek resident Leota Pearl Barker Brown will be held on Monday, November 14 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Private graveside services will be held. Leota was born August 15, 1916 in Kismet, Kan. the daughter of Benjamin Harrison and Rachel Edith (Green) Snyder. She passed away in Cortez on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at the age of 95. On May 24, 1941 Leota married Claude B. Barker in Hooker, Okla. Mr. Barker passed away in 1981 and Leota then married Ransome J. Brown on July 29, 1983 in Provo, Utah. Leota was a devoted member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. She loved to crochet, solve crossword puzzles, and knit. Surviving Leota are her sons, Leo Barker and wife, Susan of Las Animas, Colo., Kenneth Barker of Cortez, and Ronald Barker and wife, Cathy Marx of Cortez; and her step-daughter, Letta Marie Broutin. Leota also leaves behind seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Claude Barker and Ransome Brown; her daughter, Lois Pearl Barker in 1942; and by her siblings, Benjamin Rollison Snyder, Rachel Mellie Snyder, and George William Snyder.
