LEONARD WILLIAM “BILL” JOHNSON Funeral services for lifelong Cortez resident, Leonard William “Bill” Johnson will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, August 1 at the Baptist Chapel. Interment will follow at the Hilltop Cemetery in Pagosa Springs. Brother Ed Hicks will be officiating. A visitation has been scheduled for Monday morning at the Ertel Memorial Chapel from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Bill was born on February 6, 1934 in Dove Creek, Colo. the son of Clarence William “Claud” and Dolores Estelle (Coen) Johnson. He passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2005 at his home in Cortez at the age of 71. A lifelong Cortez resident, Bill graduated from Montezuma Cortez High School in 1953. He went on to become the Superintendent of Flaugh Construction for many years. He was an active member in his community and country belonging to the National Guard, Civitans, Elks Lodge and American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, working in his shop and on cars. Surviving Bill are his children, Gerry Johnson, and Debbie Cone both of Cortez; his grandson, Justyn Cone of Cullman, Ala.; and his two brothers, Duane Johnson of Chico, Calif., and Bob Johnson of Cortez. Preceding him in death were his parents; and his grandson, Rusty Cone. Memorial contributions can be made in Bill’s name at the First National Bank of Cortez.
