LEONARD A. MAEZ A visitation for longtime Dolores resident, Leonard A. Maez has been scheduled from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, November 14 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Leonard was born on November 16, 1933 in Lewis, Colo. the son of Edward and Perfilia (Lobato) Maez. He passed away on Monday, November 10, 2014 at his home in Dolores. Leonard was 80 years old. Leonard entered the Army as a young man where he learned Morse Code and was a Sharp Shooter. On August 9, 1952 in Carson City, Nev. he married Adele Horn. They were married for 62 years. Leonard was a loving husband and father; who was loved by his whole family, especially his children. He will forever be remembered as a strong man of few words with a great sense of humor. An honorable and hardworking man, Leonard spent his career as a Rancher. Ranching was his life. He also dedicated his time to his community. Leonard was one of the original volunteers for the Lewis Arriola Fire Department. Serving 17 years as a Volunteer Fireman. Some of Leonard's favorite pastimes were hunting and fishing. Surviving Leonard are his wife, Adele Maez of Dolores; his children, Cindy Culbertson and husband, Carter of Dolores, Liz Imel and husband Cris of Fruita, Colo., Leonard E. Maez and wife, Janet of Dolores; his grandchildren, Shane Randall, Lisa Stewart, Eric Randall, Gary Randall, Jered Culbertson, Kris Culbertson, Adam Imel, Jared Imel, Sara Fetters, Lindsey Gaasch, Whitney Maez; 16 great grandchildren; and his siblings, Robert Maez and wife, Martha of Summit Ridge, Liz Amador and husband, Dick of Safford, Ariz., Dean Maez and wife, Manuelita of Las Vegas, Nev., and Allen Maez and wife, Valerie of Lewis. Preceding Leonard in death are his parents, Edward and Perfilia (Lobato) Maez; his brother, Charles Maez; and his grandson, Nicklas Maez. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Leonard A. Maez's name to the Lewis Arriola Fire Department.
