Leona G. Crouse

LEONA G. CROUSE Funeral services for former Cortez resident Leona G. Crouse will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 13 at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Summit Ridge Cemetery. Chaplain Marvin Graves will officiate. A reception will follow the interment service at the Cortez Recreation Center in the Mesa Room from 1 to 3 p.m. Visitation has been scheduled for Monday morning from 8 to 9 a.m. at Ertel Chapel. The second of four children, Leona was born March 2, 1925 in Mancos, Colo. the daughter of Wesley E. and Greta H. (Sturdevant) Shearer. She passed away at her home in Mesa, Ariz. on Monday, July 6, 2009 at the age of 84. Leona lived most of her life in Dolores and Cortez. In August of 1965 she married Fred Crouse which brought a long and lasting relationship that would complete their lives. In 2001, Leona retired with her husband in Mesa, Ariz. where she lived until July 6, 2009. She will be lovingly missed and remembered. Surviving Leona are her husband, Fred Crouse of Mesa, Ariz.; her son, LeRoy Tucker of San Jose, Calif.; and her step-children, Carolyn Lard of Cortez, Gary Crouse of Cortez, and Judy Johnson of Amarillo, Tex. Leona also leaves behind five grandchildren, Bryon, Carla, Kristi, Natalie and Quintin; step-grandchildren, Ricky, Shane, Jody, Marcie, Ginger, Pam, Laura, Chris, and Douglas; and many great-grandchildren. Leona was preceded in death by her parents; and by her three siblings, Nathan Shearer, Dorothy Sanders, and Merlin Shearer.
