Leona Bridgewater

LEONA BRIDGEWATER Graveside services for lifelong Cortez resident, Leona Bridgewater will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 11 at Cortez Cemetery with Pastor Gary Fowler officiating. Leona was born the daughter of Spencer and Pearl Augusta (Coppinger) Kirk on December 28, 1931 in Cortez. She passed away at her home on Saturday, July 7, 2007 at the age of 75. In Leona’s free time she enjoyed bowling and watching softball. She was known as a card player extraordinaire. Surviving Leona are her two sons, James W. Bridgewater and wife, Puff and Donald K. Bridgewater and wife, Emily all of Cortez. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Stacey Axline, Jamie Hays, Michelle Simmons, Monica Wrast, Amanda Antholz, Anthony Dees and Jarvis Dees; twelve great grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Hanson of Cortez and Virginia White of Klamath Falls, Ore.; and her brother, Howard Kirk of Cortez. She was preceded in death by her parents and two infant brothers. The family suggests in lieu of flowers that those who wish go to the closest casino, place a wager and think of Leona.
