LENA ADAKAI YAZZIE Funeral services for Cortez resident Lena Adakai Yazzie are tentatively scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, March 17. Please contact Ertel Funeral Home at 565-3468 for the funeral service location. Interment will follow at Cortez Cemetery. Lena was born on April 14, 1935 in Dennehotso, Ariz., the daughter of Jerry and Sarah (Gray) Adakai. She passed away on Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at the Northern Navajo Medical Center in Shiprock, N.M. at the age of 71. Lena enjoyed Navajo rug weaving and traditional Native American dancing. She was a wonderful homemaker who loved to cook and sew. Surviving Lena are her husband, Jimmie J. Singer of Cortez; her children, Delbert Yazzie and wife, Alice of Dennehotso, Ariz., Lorretta Hatathley and husband, Emerson of Moab, Utah, Priscilla Lopez and husband, Sabino of Monticello, Utah, Gerald Yazzie and wife, Lucille also of Monticello, Utah, Evelyn Burke and husband, Ray of Farmington, N.M., and Maria Yazzie also of Farmington, N.M.; her siblings, Wilma Rose Black of Monument Valley, Ariz., Dan Adakai of Dennehotso, Ariz., and Thompson Adakai of Shiprock, N.M.; 26 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her children, Lorena Jones and Albert Yazzie.
