Leemon Dean Ferguson

June 1, 1931 — August 10, 2008

LEEMON DEAN FERGUSON Leemon Dean Ferguson was born to Arthur Vernon and Elva Marie (Goforth) Ferguson on June 1, 1931 in Dagonia, Mo. and passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2008 at Southwest Memorial Hospital at the age of 77. When Leemon was about seven years old, he moved to Colorado with his family and grew up farming beans and wheat in the Egnar area. As a young adult, Leemon worked on a railroad job and he worked in the mines and mill in Naturita. In 1950, Leemon met Nola Meadows of McElmo and they married in 1951. To this union were born six children. They lived in Egnar when Shannon, Gail and Marilyn were born, in Moab, Utah when Kristie was born, and in Slick Rock when Lorine and Wesley were born. During their early marriage, Leemon did various road construction jobs and worked in the mill at Slick Rock. He moved the family to Grants, N.M. in 1962 and drove an ore truck for more than 20 years, logging over a million miles. Leemon enjoyed working with his hands, he could fix anything. He designed and built two unique dune buggies and drove them everywhere. He returned to Colorado in 1983, when he retired. Leemon worked on his farm, and enjoyed spending time on his four wheeler trips, panning for gold, hunting with his brothers, listening to blue grass music and watching westerns. He loved and trusted the Lord, and his greatest joys were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who loved to spend time at his place. Leemon and Nola welcomed all the new additions to their family. There were no "step" children. Surviving Leemon are his wife, Nola of Cortez; his children, Shannon and wife, Teresa of Houston, Tex., Gail Ferguson of Cortez, Marilyn Kerr of Durango, Kristie Damron of Cortez, Lorine and husband, Tom Carter of Long Beach, Calif., and Wesley and wife, Jenna of Noel, Mo.; and his siblings, Curtis of Cortez, Willis of Grand Junction, Howard of Winona, Mo., and Reva Davis of Harrison, Ark. Leemon also leaves behind his grandchildren, Jodie Wallis, Brian and Stephan Ferguson, Heather Vaughn, Charity Smith, Isaiah and Josiah Ferguson, Twyla Trusty, Brandon Kerr, Lamanda Moran, Jacqueline Njorge, Jeremiah and Johnathan Damron, Teri Doherty, Daniel and Matthew Carter, Nathaniel Ferguson, Amy Geiger, Jennifer Ray, and Nick Rossi; his great-grandchildren, Logan, Joseph, Brianna, Violet, Angel, Emma, Kiera, Jasmine, Brandon, Abigail, Brittina, Nicholas, Jacob, Courtney, Nicole, Natasha, James, Cassidy, Garrett, Bridget, Hope, Aysha, Sarah, David, Lacey, Elleia, Kaitlyn and Hunter; his great-great-grandchild, Tapanga; and numerous nieces and nephews. Leemon was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Bernis, Lowell, and Vernon Ray; and by his grandson, Joshua Carter. Cremation has taken place and at Leemon's request, no services are planned. A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
