L.D. Alfred Gleeson, 93, passed away peacefully at home in Cortez, Colorado, on April 13, 2025. Born in 1932, L.D. lived a life rich with hard work, love, faithful service, and determination. His journey began on the farm, and later, he honed his skills in the HVAC trade at Goettl Air Conditioning Company. Eventually, he founded his own business—Gleeson Construction. As a general contractor in Phoenix, Arizona, he built homes, businesses, and a reputation for honest, quality work. After retiring early, he settled in Cortez, where he embraced the peaceful country life he had always dreamed of.
In his younger years, L.D. proudly served in the U.S. Army, where his walk with the Lord began. Although his faith wandered at times, he returned to the Lord and spent his life modeling generosity, love, faith, and enduring strength. He was especially fond of the hymn Old Rugged Cross.
Coming from humble beginnings, L.D. always sought to help others. Whether with his time, his tools, or a kind word, he was quick to lend a hand. He was ready to help others in need with his resources and building capabilities.
A man of simple tastes, L.D. cherished his family and the Colorado countryside. He adored animals, especially dogs. He was passionate about collecting and restoring old cars and found joy in teaching young children about faith. He and his wife, Tresa, spent 22 years teaching Sunday School to 2-year-olds at First Baptist Church. Above all, he was a devoted husband and a proud father to his four children: John Gleeson, Salli McCartin, Karen Hensly & Susan Kidd.
L.D. built a beautiful life with Tresa—one shaped by deep love, grief, and grace. His legacy lives on in his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the many homes he built in the Phoenix and Cortez areas. Despite the challenges life brought, L.D. could have become just another statistic—but he persevered. He and Tresa were married for 71 years, creating a legacy that now spans generations
He is survived by his beloved wife, Tresa Gleeson, and his children Karen, Susan, Salli, and John. He is also survived by sons-in-law Lonnie Hensley (Karen) and Mitch Kidd (Susan), as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, each touched by his love.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Robsion; his mother, Sarah Germaine; his stepfather, Vern Robsion; his father, Alfred Gleeson, his son-in-law Timothy McCartin, and daughter in-law Mary Gleeson.
L.D. worked hard his entire life, with grit and determination. He will be remembered as a man of deep values, steady hands, and an open heart. His legacy of faith, family, and strength will last for generations. “Go Rest High on That Mountain, L.D. Your work here is finished.”
A private family graveside military service will be held to honor L.D.'s life and service. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. The Gleeson family extends heartfelt thanks to the caregivers who cared for L.D. in his final days. Your kindness and compassion will never be forgotten.
