LAWRENCE WILLIAM "MAC" MCCORD Funeral services for Mancos resident Lawrence William "Mac" McCord will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 2 at Blunt Funeral Home in Colorado Springs, Colo. Interment will follow at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver. Visitation has been scheduled for Monday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Blunt Funeral Home, 2229 W. Colorado Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colo. 80904. Mac was born December 14, 1921 in Sand Springs, Okla. the son of Claude William and Lora Louiza (Tyree) McCord. He passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at Valley Inn Nursing Home at the age of 91. Mac married Wanda Lee Bassett on August 19, 1941 in Aurora, Colo. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. Mac was part of the Big Red One also known as the 1st Infantry Division during World War II. In 1967 he retired from the military as a Sergeant First Class. Mac then went on to perform Civil Service work at Fort Carson and then he became a heavy equipment operator for the Air Force Academy. In his free time, Mac enjoyed fishing and camping. He loved to travel with his wife, and after her passing Mac traveled extensively with his sister, Dorothy. Surviving Mac are his children, Lora Hover and husband, Tom of Mancos and Claud McCord and wife, Vicki of Denver; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mac was preceded in death by his parents; by his wife, Wanda McCord; and by his siblings, John McCord, Walter McCord, Clyde McCord, Dorothy McCord, Rosetta McCord, and Letha McCord. Memorial contributions may be made in Lawrence "Mac" McCord's name to the Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75 in Cortez or to the Mancos Senior Center.
