LaVERA WINTERS Funeral services for longtime Cortez resident, LaVera Winters will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, October 16 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Summit Ridge Cemetery. LaVera was born August 24, 1925 at Florence, Kans. the daughter of Evert and Myrtie Milam. She passed away in Farmingtin, N.M. at Cedar Ridge Inn on Thursday, October 12, 2006 at the age of 81. LaVera will be remembered as a cook for the Cortez Livestock Auction, working there for 13 years. She and her husband, Neal Winters ran Stoner Lodge for a number of years as well. In her free time, LaVera loved to play Bridge. Surviving LaVera are her two daughters, Karen Dennison and husband, Gary of Farmington, N.M. and Judy Barlow and husband, Don of Denver, Colo. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Michelle Blades and Michael Dennison of Farmington, N.M., and Ryan Barlow of Denver; and great grandchildren, Tyler and Brianna Blades, and Justin and Delaney Dennison; two sisters, Eunice Christensen of Phoenix, Ore. and Mary Moore of Washington, D.C.; and her brother, Eugene Milam of Lake Havasu City, Ariz. Preceding LaVera in death were her husband, Neal Winters in 1983; her mother, Myrtie Milam; her father, Evert Milam; and her step-mother, Ruth Baker Milam who raised LaVera after her mother’s death.
