Larry Neil Haynie

September 16, 1945 — December 13, 2022

Larry Neil Haynie was born September 16, 1945 in Corsicana, Texas to Rossi Wayne “Mutt” Haynie and Mary Emma “Marie” Quinn Haynie. He was the second of three, with an older brother, Ronnie and a younger sister, Sharon. He graduated from Kerens High School in 1963. He was a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps and served in Vietnam. He continued his education at Western Illinois earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and Northern Arizona University earning a Master’s Degree in Special Education. He taught at Window Rock Unified School District for many years. After moving to Cortez, Colorado, he continued to teach at the district middle school until his retirement.


When he wasn’t working, he loved nature, scenic photography and family. He loved camping, traveling to “see the sights” and spending time with his family.


Surviving Larry is his beloved wife of 53 years, Barbara Tibbs Haynie; his two sons, Mark (Tiffany) Haynie of Page, Arizona, James (Marie) Haynie of Flagstaff, Arizona, and Beth Billmeyer of Monticello, Iowa; his grandchildren, Nathan, Aaron, Levi, Faith, Moriah, Jesi, and step-grandchildren Jasper, Evelyn, and Amelia; and his sister, Sharon Thomas of Corsicana, Texas.


He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Christopher Neil Haynie; his brother, Ronnie; and his sister-in-law, Lawdine.


Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at Ertel Memorial Chapel. An inurnment will follow at Summit Ridge Cemetery in Dolores, CO.


Contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital or the Cortez Salvation Army in his name.
