Larry D Hauser

July 17, 1938 — November 5, 2024

Cortez

Larry D. Hauser, 86, of Cortez, Colorado died on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, in his home. He was born on July 16, 1938, as the son of John and Ellen Hauser of Holly, Colorado. He is the last of six siblings. He is survived by his wife Carol Hauser and son Patrick Hauser as well as several grandkids and great grandkids in and outside of the area as well.

Larry spent most of his life living in different parts of Colorado. He joined the Navy when he was 17 years old and spent most of those years in Morocco as an aerial photographer.

Larry moved back to Colorado where he took jobs where he could. He started as a surveyor on the construction of the Eisenhower Tunnel. He then settled into a long career as a newspaper printer pressman for several newspapers in and outside of the area of Colorado. Larry spent the majority of this particular career working for the Cortez Journal until he retired after 40 years.

Retirement didn't slow Larry down. The farm where Larry lived was the site of his hobby of raising over 100 ostriches for several years. He then decided on a different hobby of raising pumpkins, for over 20 years, to sell to the community and busloads of school children throughout the month of October. He will forever be a Halloween memory for thousands of Montezuma County children.

Larry was also an accomplished musician. He played the bass and fiddle along with other musicians for small events and at the senior center each week. Through all of this, Larry was also a mountain guide and a Colorado shooting champion. Larry is a true "Renaissance Man" contributing to science and art wherever he went.

Larry touched the hearts and minds of people all over Colorado and even the world, and we are all better for having known him.
