Kirby Dwayne Sanchez was born May 26, 1952 in Cortez, Colorado. He grew up on Bug Point and spent his youth helping his parents clean the land and farm it. Kirby met his wife, Carmelita, at the ripe age of 15, and married his high school sweetheart on June 14, 1972.
Kirby worked for his father in the summer farming and in the winter at the old Shell station in Dove Creek. He loved farming and being on a tractor. When farming just couldn’t provide for his family after having two children, Kirby went to mining and then was hired in the oil industry where he retired after 32 years.
Kirby was the life of the party. He was always the strong one that was more concerned about others than himself. Kirby enjoyed cooking, hunting, fishing, golfing, football, and making sure those around him were happy. Kirby had a servant heart and would be the first to show up if you needed him. Watching him taking care of both of his parents with such loving care was a testament to his character. Kirby dedicated the last years of his life lovingly caring his wife through cancer. He was the best husband, father, papa, son, brother, uncle, and friend. Kirby touched so many and his presence will be so greatly missed.
Kirby is survived by his wife, Carma; his son, Brandon Sanchez (Mistina); his daughter, Mandi Birge (Jeremy); his granddaughters, Micaiah Sanchez, BriAnna Comyford (Klancey), and Elsa Sanchez; his great grandchildren, Kaden and Adaline Krafka; his sister, Brenda Frans; his brother, CR Sanchez; his second mom, Lora Sanchez; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
