KENNETH ROY ATKINS Kenneth Roy Atkins was born on January 11, 1923 near Olney Springs, Colo. the son of Roy and Lillie (Karuse) Atkins. He passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2005 at the Vista Grande Nursing Home at the age of 82. Kenneth grew up on the family farm North of Olney Springs. He later served in the U.S. Navy aboard an aircraft carrier during World War II. Kenneth went on to Alaska in 1950 where he homesteaded property. A few years later he went to work for the Alaska Railroad as a lineman for several years. In the late 1960’s he moved back to Colorado. Upon his return to Colorado, Kenneth worked for several ranchers for many years. He continued this type of work until his retirement. In 1997 Kenneth moved from Delta, Colo. to Cortez, where his brother could help care for him. Surviving Kenneth are his three sisters, Gladys Schubert of Olney Springs, Colo., Mabel Gramer of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Peggy Williams of Rocky Ford, Colo.; and two brothers, Morris Atkins of Palmer, Alaska, and Wilbur Atkins of Cortez. Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, and two sisters. No services have been scheduled at this time.
