KENNETH RICHARD WHITED Memorial services for longtime Cortez resident Kenneth Richard Whited will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 29 at Cortez First United Methodist Church. Reverends Tom Towns and Suzanne Listemann will officiate. A potluck lunch will follow the services in Hampton Hall at the Methodist Church. Kenneth was born September 19, 1946 in Cortez the son of George and Alice Louise (Hafling) Whited. He passed away at his Cortez home on Thursday, November 24, 2011 at the age of 65. On June 25, 1977 in Farmington, N.M., Ken married Nancy Ann Schieber. The Whited family moved to Cortez in 1981 when Kenneth began his teaching career in the Cortez schools. He received his undergraduate degree from New Mexico State University and his Masters from University of Northern Colorado. Kenneth taught for 30 years, loving the opportunity to teach young minds. He was a member of Cortez First United Methodist Church. The beauty of this area held Kenneth's attention displayed by the long drives he loved to take. He enjoyed photographing the area and watching wildlife. Surviving Kenneth are his loving wife, Nancy Whited of Cortez; three sons, Robert Whited and wife, Leslie of Kansas City, Mo., Allen Whited and wife, Justina of Cortez and Chris Whited and wife, Susanne of Los Lunas, N.M.; by six grandchildren, Bryan Williamson, Carly Bell, Katie Cousley, Samantha Lamke, Kaitlin Whited, and Kathrine Whited; and by five great grandchildren, Mikayla, Abby, Brooke, Taeylor and Haeylie. Kenneth is also survived by two sisters, Helen Cardon and husband, Kent of Denver, Colo. and Patricia Whited of Albuquerque, N.M. Preceding Kenneth in death were his parents; a brother, Theodore Whited; and a sister, Alice Whited.
