Kenneth Fred Hazen

KENNETH FRED HAZEN Memorial services for longtime area resident Kenneth Fred Hazen will be held on Saturday, November 19 at the Rico Community Church at 2 p.m. Ken was born April 15, 1927 the son of Fred and Vira (Mitchell) Hazen. He passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2016 at Southwest Memorial Hospital at the age of 89. Ken married Marlene Joan Fortik in Albuquerque, N.M. on April 16, 1966. He served his country with the United States Navy during World War II. Ken was involved with and belonged to many clubs and organizations. He was a member of the Shrine, Masons, American Legion, Rico Community Church and Jefferson City Sheriff Posse. Ken was a community minded man, he was part of the Rico Fire Department for 10 years and he was the mayor of Rico in 1992. During Ken's working days he was a crane operator for 40 years and he belonged to the Crane Operator Union. In his free time Ken enjoyed many hobbies. Fishing, golfing, playing tennis, skiing, and wood carving were among his favorite. He also had a great love of trains, large and small. Ken was an accomplished artist excelling in pen and ink media. So many people can learn from the way Ken lived his life, love of the Lord, love of family and friends, love of country. Ken has touched countless lives, and will truly be missed by all. Surviving Ken are his loving wife of 50 years, Marlene Hazen of Dolores; his children, Jennifer Marielle Nunley (T.J. Johnston) of Rico and Kimberly Ellen Jones (Todd) of Rico; and his grandchildren, Kaitlin Hazen Boren (Justin) of Las Vegas, Nev., Kelby Rayellen Hazen Nunley of Cortez, Wyatt Mathew Jones of Dolores, and Adeline Marielle Jones of Dolores. Ken was preceded in death by his parents; and by his siblings, Keith Hazen and Dorothea Scott. Memorial contributions may be made in Ken Hazen's name to the Shriners Children's Hospital, the Rico Community Church, or the Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75 in Cortez.
