Our dear mother Kathryn Ann Evans of Cortez Colo., passed away peacefully in her home on Nov 20, at the age of 84, after a long struggle with heart disease.
She was born in Denver on May 25, 1939, to Philip and Maye Kail. She had a lifelong passion for animals which she was ultimately able to combine with her skill for sewing, knitting and weaving into several profitable ventures. She was never seen without some crafty project in hand.
Kathryn attended Wheat Ridge High before receiving her bachelor's degree in Home Economics at Colorado State University. It was there that she met her spouse of 63 years Rodney Evans. They quickly bonded over their mutual love of animals and they continued to share this passion throughout their long and happy marriage.
She taught school for many years in Brighton, Telluride and Norwood, Colo., and was beloved by her many students. She served as City Councilwoman and Mayor (pro-tem) in Telluride during the period that saw the opening of the ski area there. She was a longtime member of the LDS church and served in several church callings.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her first born son Brad. She is survived by her husband Rodney; her brother Fred Kail; sister Josie Bolton; and her children Danny Evans and Lizzie Borgard. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
