Kathleen Loretta (Faught) Greenlee

July 29, 1949 — July 8, 2016

KATHLEEN LORETTA (FAUGHT) GREENLEE Funeral services for longtime Cortez resident Kathleen Loretta (Faught) Greenlee will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 16 at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Arriola Cemetery. Kathleen Loretta (Faught) Greenlee, 66, of Cortez, Colorado died suddenly in Durango, on July 8, 2016. Kathy was born on July 29, 1949 in Detroit, Michigan to Raymond and Dorothy Faught. Kathy attended Butterworth School of Nursing in Grand Rapids, Michigan. After graduation she followed her dream to work in Colorado. She settled in Cortez in 1973 where she met her husband Ed Greenlee, a lifelong citizen of Cortez. She and Ed were married January 4, 1974 in Cortez. Kathy leaves behind her husband Ed and their children, Gwen Durazo and husband, Michael and their daughter, Breanna, of San Jose, California; Travis Greenlee and wife, Staci and their children, Lane and Tylee, of Cortez; her daughter, Laurie and husband, Jason McClain and their children, Cooper and Josey of Cortez; and Ed Ryan Greenlee of Briggsdale, Colorado. Kathy is also survived by her siblings, Jerry and Diane Faught of Plymouth, Michigan, Bill Faught of Cortez, Jean and John Wollscheid of Sachse, Texas, and Peggy and Bill Blackmer of Dolores, Colorado; as well as her nieces, nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and great nephew. Kathy started her nursing career in pediatrics at St. Joe's hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. When Kathy moved to Cortez she worked at Southwest Memorial for 31 years. Kathy then started working at San Juan Regional in Farmington, New Mexico. The drive there was long, but she loved her work and loved the people she worked with. Kathy will be missed by her numerous friends and colleagues. She will be remembered for her devotion to the mothers and the countless babies she helped to deliver. She loved being a "labor and delivery nurse," helping mothers bring new life into this world, and making a difference not only to those families but the nurses she mentored and her work family. Kathy was not only everyone's favorite nurse, she was always the one to turn to whenever anyone had a question. The job Kathy found most rewarding was taking care of her family. She reveled in being a wife, mom, and especially a grandma. She and Ed took their kids along with their nephews, Charley and Kyle, to every rodeo they could. She soon became everyone's "Rodeo Mom". If anyone got hurt, she certainly was the first to jump that fence and come to their side. Once she had grandchildren they became her life. She followed them to every game, dance recital, program, rodeo and 4H event. Kathy loved the mountains and the ocean. She loved flowers and birds, basically any animal on Earth. She was well known for taking in any animal that needed a home. She was a selfless person that would go cold and hungry to make sure you were warm and full. She was truly an angel here on earth and will continue to be our angel in heaven. She left us too soon, but even in death she is reminding us to cherish our family and friends and "make memories" because we never know what tomorrow will bring. Memorial contributions may be made in Kathy Greenlee's name at Dolores State Bank.
