KAI LYNN CRAIG Funeral services for Mancos resident Kai Lynn Craig will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 1 at Lifeway Baptist Church. Cremation will follow the funeral. Kai was born in Globe, Ariz. on June 5, 1989. She passed away in Montrose County Friday, January 25, 2008 at the age of 18. She attended school in Flagstaff, Ariz. and then moved to Dolores, where she attended Dolores Elementary and Middle schools. She was due to graduate from Southwest Open School in Cortez this coming May. Kai was well known for her creativity, which began early in life with dancing, drawing, and participating in 4-H. She continued her 4-H interests in high school with Future Farmers of America, and received awards for judging in horse confirmation. Kai was an adept student in Aikido, a graceful martial art. She was also active in dog training and showing through 4-H. Dancing, reading, and drawing were some of Kai's passions in life. She had spent the last four years studying the art of anime' and creative writing. This January she received the Gold Key Award in the animation category of the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards Contest for the state of Colorado and was about to enter her animation at the National Level in New York. Surviving Kai are her brother, Kegan Azul Craig of Mancos; her father, Kevin Craig of Flagstaff, Ariz.; her grandparents, Robert and Cathy Wagenfehr of Glendale, Ariz.; her uncles, Tyler Von Wagenfehr and wife, Lee of Pinetop, Ariz., Robert O. Wagenfehr and wife, Raquel of Waddell, Ariz., and Dr. H. Randall Craig and wife of Phoenix, Ariz.; her aunt, Mitzi Torri of Cave Creek, Ariz.; seven cousins; her step-father, John Greefkens; her step-sister, Sarah Greefkens; her great-grandmother, Mary Corbin; and numerous loving friends and relatives.
