JUDITH IRENE SMITH Memorial services for Cortez resident Judith Irene Smith will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 4 at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. Judith Irene Burley was born February 4, 1933 in Los Angeles, Calif. the only child of Paul and Irene Burley. She passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 29, 2009 at her residence at the age of 76. Judy was raised in Southern California and attended U.C.L.A., graduating in 1954 with a degree in Psychology. Immediately following graduation she married her college sweetheart, Ronald Smith. She worked and supported her husband through Stanford Medical School and Residency. In 1961, the couple started a family and she devoted her time to raising her three children in San Francisco, Calif. Toward the end of her husband's career, Judy and Ron relocated to the Southwest and she made had made Cortez her home for the past 14 years. Judy was closely involved within the community of Cortez, always giving generously of her time. She was a cherished wife and mother, adored grandmother, and valued friend. She will be sorely missed. Surviving Judy are her children and their families, Amy Mead, Dave Smith, and Morgan Smith; and her grandchildren, Erin, Megan, Mackenzie, and Anna. Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Ron Smith. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make charitable contributions to, St. Francis Hotel for Pets, 14929 Road G, Cortez, Colo. 81321. The family will hold memorial services in the Bay Area at a future date.
