Joseph Peabody Sr.

JOSEPH PEABODY SR. Funeral services for lifelong Towaoc resident Joseph Peabody Sr. will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, December 3 at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Ouray Cemetery in Ignacio, Colo. Visitation has been scheduled for Monday from 4-6 p.m. at the chapel. On April 1, 1926 in Towaoc, Joe was born the son of Ike and Patty (Summa) Peabody. He passed away on Friday, November 29, 2013 in Towaoc at the age of 87. Joe married the love of his life Elizabeth Thompson and they shared 65 years of marriage before her death. Joe worked for and retired from the Bureau of Indian Affairs working at the Ute Mountain Tribe. He loved spending time outdoors hunting, fishing and landscaping. Joe was a "jack of all trades" and helpful to anyone needing a hand. According to his family, he was a "bad" dude. Joe loved his family especially his grandchildren. Surviving Joe are his daughter, Joycelyn Dutchie and husband, Gilbert of Ignacio; seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ike and Patty Peabody; wife, Elizabeth Peabody; children, Milton Peabody, Dennis Peabody, Michael Peabody, Joseph Peabody Jr., Josephine Peabody, Baby Boy Peabody, and Rufus Peabody; and siblings, McKean Peabody and Fred Peabody.
