JOSEF GAWDUN Funeral services for longtime Cortez resident, Josef Gawdun will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 24 at the St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Cortez Cemetery. Father Derrek D. Scott will be officiating. A prayer vigil has been scheduled for Monday night beginning at 7 p.m. at the Catholic Church. Josef was born March 5, 1920 in Tluste, Galecn, Ukraine, the son of Josef and Magdalena (Semeras) Gawdun. He passed away on Wednesday, August 18, 2004 at the Vista Grande Nursing Home, at the age of 84. Josef was raised in the Ukraine the youngest of four children. On March 16, 1949 in Koblenz, Germany, Josef married Eva Krywecka. In January 1950 they immigrated to the United States. Josef worked hard as an upholsterer doing furniture repair. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Surviving Josef are his beloved wife, Eva Gawdun of Cortez; his children, Michael Gawdun of San Antonio, Tex., Stefon Gawdun and wife, Patricia of Denver, Colo., Ed Gawdun and wife, Maya of Mancos, Andre Gawdun of Mesa, Ariz., Frank Gawdun and wife, Beth of Tempe, Ariz., and Tom Gawdun of Pagosa Springs, Colo. He leaves seven grandchildren, Julie of Salina, Kan., Richie Anne Gawdun of Grand Junction, Colo., Andrew Gawdun of Reno, Nev., David and Alycia Gawdun of Reno, Nev., Heather and Rachel Gawdun of Tempe, Ariz.; and one great-grandchild, Jasmine of Salina, Kans. Preceding Josef in death were his parents; two brothers, and one sister.
