JOHN V. REEVES Memorial services for Cortez resident John V. Reeves will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 16 at the First Baptist Church. Pastor Vic Powell will officiate. Military honors will be provided by the Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75. John was born March 6, 1933 in Ashfork, Ariz. the son of Emma Mae Cox and John Vietch Reeves. He passed away in his home surrounded with his immediate family by his side in Cortez, Colo. on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at the age of 79. John was a strong and independent man who enjoyed a life of work as well as travel. He began his career in Tempe, Ariz. with Salt River Project in March of 1968 as a clerk and later he became a journeyman steam plant mechanic. John was an active member in his local union IBEW local 266 for over 25 years. He went from a member to vice-president and ultimately president for nearly 10 years. During the earlier years in his life John served actively in the U.S. military as a 3rd class Yeoman. John married the love of his life, Virginia Lee West on August 21, 1960. Together the two of them had five wonderful and beloved children, Leann E. Rasmussen of Apache Junction, Ariz., Robert W. Reeves of Hutto, Tex., Pamela S. Mingua of Kyle Tex., and Phillip E. Reeves of Cortez, Colo. John was preceded in death by his second son, John V. Reeves II. Surviving John are his immediate family mentioned above; and his extended family including Ron P. Rasmussen, husband, of Leann of Apache Junction, Ariz., Tamiey Lumpkin-Reeves, wife of Robert, of Hutto, Tex., and Will Mingua Jr., husband of Pamela of Kyle, Tex., and seven grandchildren, Christopher Reeves, Braylon Lillard, Clayton Birch, and Chance Reeves, all of Hutto, Tex., Krystal Rasmussen and Samantha Rasmussen both of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Keyanne Rinehart of Hutto, Tex.
